Model Neurodiagnostic Standard — canonical role taxonomy
Workforce structure · published 2026-06-15 · next review 2027-06-15
Model statements
- Employers should be able to express every neurodiagnostic job title as exactly one canonical role level, independent of local naming.
- Role level is defined by supervised competency and demonstrated independence, not by tenure alone.
- Credential expectation is stated per level and is distinguished from credential requirement, which is an employer or payer decision.
- Modality authorisation (routine, ambulatory, LTM/EMU, cEEG, EP, IONM) is tracked separately from role level; a Tech III in routine EEG is not automatically authorised for critical-care cEEG.
Local decision required
- Whether a given level is a hiring requirement or a progression target.
- Wage banding attached to each level.
- Whether uncredentialed staff may perform any modality independently.
